- Barnfield College (Engineering) are involved with Eduserv in writing a guide for motor vehicle tutors to enable them to use ILT more effectively.
- Blackpool and the Fylde College (Travel and Tourism) have provided bespoke customer service courses for Lancaster City Council, Glendower Group of Hotels and 10 local hoteliers and accommodation providers. The have also provided the FSA Travel Insurance qualification to Pontins/Travel City/NST/Hays/Gold Medal, plus several small independents.
- Broxtowe College (Travel and Tourism) have increased their international links through hosting German staff involved in the development and teaching of tourism outside Berlin. They were able to share good practice and are looking to work with them on European projects in the future.
- Bury and Hopwood Hall College (Childcare) are developing on-line tutor guides for Level 3 programmes funded by Eduserv. Apprenticeships at Hopwood Hall have been successful with 16 learners achieving full apprenticeships and 8 working towards advanced apprenticeships. 16 apprentices have been recruited to start in September.
- Bridgwater College (Childcare) are part of a consortium including the University of Plymouth, Bridgwater College Children’s Centre and NCH (South West) and have been selected as one of 9 regional centres to deliver a new Master’s level qualification to heads and deputies of the new Children’s Centres. The programme will be delivered across the whole of the South West region.
- First College (Hospitality and Catering) are collaborating with hospitality providers (both FE and work-based) in Lincolnshire and Rutland. They meet together bi monthly with the LLSC and Sector Skills Council, have a joint prospectus which lists all hospitality courses in the region and have a common pricing strategy for courses. This collaboration have submitted two bids as a consortium to the County Council for ESF funding, one for the training of school meal staff, and one for bite size courses.
- Grantham College (Engineering) are launching their Education Skill Source CoVE through a major manufacturing, technology, learning and recruitment exhibition for the East Midlands. www.esscove.co.uk
- Grimsby Collaborative CoVE (Food Technology) has published a book Guide to seafood hygiene management in association with Eurofish and Sippo publications.
- Hugh Baird and Liverpool Community College (Travel and Tourism) are collaborating with all colleges on Merseyside to write the schemes of work and develop assessments for the foundation degrees in Tourism and Hospitality with Liverpool John Moores University. Liverpool Community College are working with Halton College and the North West Tourism Skills Network Manager to jointly write the employers pack on placements and work experience. Learners from Liverpool planned, ran and evaluated a weekend in Grasmere, Lake District that involved them taking over the running of the Hotel.
- Leeds College of Technology and Wakefield College (ICT) have introduced one/two day cost recovery courses in Introduction to Wireless Networking, Cisco PIX Firewall Configuration (Intensive), PC Building and Maintenance for Beginners.
- New College Nottingham (Childcare) have an ILT strategy in place, which has involved a skills audit of both competence and confidence leading to a rolling programme of training according to individual needs. They have created ILT leads and are taking part in DfES research relating to embedding ILT into the curriculum. Access to ILT has been improved for staff with the introduction of laptops this summer and the planned introduction of tablet PC’s in the autumn.
- North Nottingham College (Food Technology) are working with the Food and Drink Forum and Campden Food Association, a large private training provider, on sensory valuation courses and testing panels.
- North Warwickshire and Hinckley College (Business and Management) have increased sponsorship through working with a local company, Caterpillar, who have provided them with 10 laptop computers. Caterpillar’s policy is to replace computers every 2 years. The CoVE did a press release and good publicity was obtained for both the CoVE and Caterpillar.
- Oldham College (Business and Management) have assisted City College Manchester Financial Training division, Quantica, on how best to manage WBL with their apprentices and how to deal with lack of completed frameworks.
- Rolls-Royce and Derby CoVE (Engineering) are working on a Peak Training Day where they will take their normal classroom to company sites. The companies will also host three or four other companies. This is in response to a Peak District initiative for companies who will not travel to local/regional colleges.
- Rural Business Management Training (Business and Management) are working collaboratively with other organisations to deliver training in rural communities e.g.web design courses. They are working with private training providers who deliver training but also refer their clients to the college.
- The Community College Hackney (Business and Management) have worked with Havering, Tower Hamlets, Westminster Kingsway and Kingston College CoVE partners in delivering the new Securities and Investment Institute qualification, The Introduction to Investment Award. The publicity generated has attracted employers whom they are using to give some valuable input to the course.
